Hi Jay, Thank for reaching out! Yes, an inspection is an absolute must prior to use. You'll receive a PDF copy of the inspection report if you hire Coachlight Chimney & Fireplace. I would suggest a level 2 inspection that includes a camera scope of the flue, and getting on the roof to inspect the top of your chimney and surrounding areas. We would also be inspecting the firebox, damper, smoke chamber, chimney cap, and any other components that your chimney and fireplace might have. The inspection report is generated by a specific software for chimneys and it will have photos and descriptions for you to reference. If a fireplace is new to you, then i'd be happy to help put your mind and ease regarding proper maintenance and burning techniques.
